Prelude                                                                                               Lighting of the Candles

Opening Scripture Sentence: I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord… that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ – the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.” (Philippians 3:8-9)

*Opening Prayer                                                                                                            Pastor

*Call to Worship                                        Responsive Reading, from Psalm 19:7-14

Leader: The God who frees us invites us to worship. The God of law and love welcomes our faithful response.

All: The heavens tell of the glory of God. The firmament proclaims God’s handiwork. God is present with us, eager to speak with us. His Word comes as thunder, lightning and smoke.

Leader: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.

All: The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous.

Leader: God has come to test us, so that fear of the Lord will be with us and keep us from sin.

All: May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer.

Call to Confession

Unison Prayer of Confession

Loving and gracious God, You are so patient with us. We run away, and You seek us. We make foolish choices, and You teach us a better way. We hurt You and others, and You forgive us. Help us to reveal Your goodness and glory in our living, that the fruit we bear in the world may be good, sweetened by the love and grace of Jesus Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.

Silent Prayer of Confession

Assurance of Pardon                                                                                                      Pastor

The proof of God’s amazing love is this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Through his blood, we are justified. Through the living Christ, we are reconciled to God and saved to eternal life with Him. “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”     (Romans 5:8 and Psalm 118:22-23)

What is produced by our caretaking is not our own but is rightfully claimed by God for the benefit of all. It is the fruit of God’s realm that we share in our offering.
